Speech Integrated Therapy
“At Sydney Occupational Therapy Centre, our success comes from bringing to life all that we believe is important. We believe in respect, so we work with you as your own person, to get to know you, understand your needs, and deliver a tailored assessment and program. We believe in openness, so we explain why we’re doing something, we let you know what to expect, and we keep you properly informed and engaged. And we believe in you, so we deliver an exceptional service, with high quality therapists, who work hard for the best possible outcome for you and your support people.”

We recognize that children’s development often requires a multi-faceted approach, particularly when addressing challenges related to communication, cognitive abilities, self-regulation, and motor skills. Our Integrated Therapy Program combines occupational and speech therapy to support the comprehensive development of children with communication and functional skill difficulties.

One of the primary advantages of integrating occupational and speech therapy is the enhancement of communication skills. Speech assistance focuses on language development, articulation, and social communication. When combined with occupational therapy, which often addresses physical and cognitive skills, children receive comprehensive support that helps them not only articulate words but also understand social cues and engage in meaningful interactions. This dual approach ensures that children are not only learning how to speak but are also developing the motor skills necessary for effective communication, such as using gestures or writing.
Research suggests that occupational therapy, using a sensory integrative (SI) approach, can have a direct, beneficial effect on speech and language development. In some cases, the child may initially benefit more from starting occupational therapy supplementing with speech therapy.
