ASSESSMENTS FOR ADULTS & ELDERLY WITH DISABILITY
Our therapist is specialized in assessing Adults and Elderly with disability with respect to Musculo Skeletal, Visual, Hearing or Behavioral. We have numerous tools and methodologies available for guide screening and assessment; particularly when identifying cognitive and mental health care needs.



HOME ASSESSMENTS
People living with disabilities or any elderly face daily challenges and most days are truly an uphill battle. Our occupational therapy services across Sydney help clients to regain their independence and live more fulfilled & Independent lives. We provide services to measure your ability to potential problems. By completing a home assessment, your occupational therapist will be able to offer advice on how to adjust in your home or help with equipment that can make your life better, safer and functional also observe your ability to perform everyday tasks about the home which are important to you and guide you accordingly.
Why Are Home Assessments Necessary?
Home assessments are an essential part of the occupational therapy process for a few reasons. At your home assessment, your therapist will:
- See if you’re able to get home safely. Are there stairs involved? Are the doors wide enough?
- Advise about obvious dangers like exposed wires that you may not be aware of.
- See if you’re able to manage household tasks such as getting in and out of bed.
- Suggest equipment that might be helpful such as a raised toilet seat.
- See if you need additional help from a carer.

MENTAL HEALTH FUNCTIONAL ASSESSMENTS
We provide robust Mental Health Functional Assessments as we understand and recognize that one is likely to have substantially reduced functional capacity if they usually are not able to function without support for most activities within at least one of the six life skill areas as follows:
- communication
- social interaction
- learning
- mobility
- self-care
- self-management
Communication: includes being understood in spoken, written, or sign language, understanding others, and the ability to express needs.
Social interaction: includes making and keeping friends, interacting with the community, behaving within limits accepted by others, and the ability to cope with feelings and emotions in a social context.
Learning: includes understanding and remembering information, learning new things, and practicing and using new skills. Learning does not include educational supports.
Mobility: means the ability of a person to move around the home and community to undertake ordinary activities of daily living requiring the use of limbs.
Self-care: relates to activities related to personal care, hygiene, grooming, feeding oneself, and the ability to care for own health care needs.
Self-management: means the cognitive capacity to organize one's life, to plan and make decisions, and to take responsibility for oneself. This includes completing daily tasks, making decisions, problem solving, and managing finances.




ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY RECOMMENDATIONS
Assistive products help maintain or improve an individual’s functioning related to cognition, communication, hearing, mobility, self-care and vision, thus enabling their health, well-being, inclusion and participation.
Improving access to assistive technology can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and to ensuring that no one is left behind.
Assistive Technology include Assessment for:
- Mobility devices such as walkers, wheelchairs and scooters
- Daily living solutions such as:Grab bars, Handrails, Shower Chairs
- Continence Items
- Household Devices
- Sitting Equipment
- Transfer Equipment
- Prosthetics and Orthotics
We work closely with the participant to understand their needs and work towards providing supports and services accordingly.

HOME MODIFICATIONS
Home modifications could mean changes to the structure or fittings to enable independence and ease to move around your home and perform your daily living activities. For example, activities such as having a shower, using the toilet, preparing a meal or simply entering or leaving your home. These can be modified for ease with solutions such as: grab rails, shower seats, low level cabinets, increasing the width of a doorway for wheelchair access.
If you feel that you have difficulties accessing space in and around your home, we could help by providing:
- Assessments of your home environment.
- Recommendations for modifications, such as ramps, rails, or easy access bath.
- Drawings detailing the suggested modifications.
At SPOT, we strive to help our clients maintain their independence and their lifestyle with safety and confidence. We work with clients within their home environments or at our Centre to understand their needs and improve daily living.
